Unite for Voting Rights and Democratic Elections

WILKES-BARRE — Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump thinks the election is rigged and is calling for supporters to register as poll watchers.

Opponents say the measure is an attempt to intimidate voters. But some people, including Robert Kuniegel of Spring Brook Twp., believe Mr. Trump is right. Mr. Kuniegel wants to organize people to conduct exit polls and is also offering $5,000 rewards for catching voter fraud.

Mr. Kuniegel placed an ad in The Times-Tribune and The Citizens’ Voice asking people to visit TrAmericanPatriot.com to learn about his plans.

As of Thursday afternoon, no one had contacted him to conduct an exit poll, he said.

Mr. Kuniegel got his idea from national political consultant Roger Stone, who proposed organizing Trump supporters as a group called “Stop the Steal” to conduct exit polls.

Anyone can ask someone leaving the polls any questions they want, said Marion Medalis, the director of elections for Lackawanna County.

“Whether voters choose to answer is up to them,” she said.

People can answer however they choose, regardless of what they marked on their ballot.

Mr. Kuniegel won’t be in Luzerne or Lackawanna counties on Election Day, however.

He plans to travel to Philadelphia to conduct his own investigation of the city’s largest voting ward.

He said he believes vans of people will be going around to different polling places casting multiple votes. If he has a “hunch” that someone is voting more than once, he plans to secretly photograph their license plate and follow the vehicle.

“I’ll follow them to their next location. If it’s not a next polling place, it’s a wrong assumption. If they do go to another polling place, I’ll take another photograph and call 911,” he said.

Mr. Kuniegel said he’s not worried people will see this as voter intimidation, because he plans to take the photographs secretly.

“I don’t want to be involved in any confrontations,” he said.

Voter intimidation is a crime. State and federal laws prohibit the practice. Anyone who intimidates, threatens or coerces voters in federal elections or tries to do so can be fined or imprisoned for up to a year.

Concerned about voter intimidation? Voters can call their local elections bureau with concerns.
